Hello Kitty is a white cat character created in 1974 by Sanrio and is My Melody's best friend. Hello Kitty wears a red or pink bow on her left ear and has a cheerful expression despite the fact that she has no mouth. She has a twin sister named Mimi, who looks identical but wears a yellow bow on her right ear. 

Hello Kitty is one of the most popular Sanrio characters and has been featured on all the usual Sanrio products - pens and pencils, school supplies and stationery items, jewelry and trinket boxes, personal and grooming items, and more. The Hello Kitty line is still in production today and vintage Hello Kitty items have become very collectible.

When collecting vintage Hello Kitty items, it's important to note that although many items are dated "1976," this refers to the copyright year and doesn't necessarily mean the item was made in 1976. Most items will include the year of copyright as well as the year the product was made.
