The original line of Strawberry Shortcake toys was made by Kenner from 1979 to 1985. Based on a rag-doll drawing that first appeared on greeting cards, the Strawberry Shortcake characters were made into scented dolls with food-themed names.
The Strawberryland Miniatures featured miniature PVC figurines of Strawberry Shortcake and her friends in various poses and activities. The Deluxe Strawberryland Miniatures line featured sets with multiple pieces and had parts that really moved.
Production of the original Strawberry Shortcake line ended in 1985. While Strawberry Shortcake toys have been revived several times since then and are still being produced today, these classic vintage originals have become beloved favorites for many collectors.
In 2015, The Bridge Direct reissued a Strawberry Shortcake doll to celebrate Strawberry Shortcake's 35th Birthday. The doll was a replica of the original classic 1980s version with the same poufy hat, red dress, green and white striped tights, and brown shoes. She was scented like the original version and there were holes in the front of the box so you could smell her nostalgic strawberry scent without taking her out of the box.
